Santiago de Compostela (EFE) With an incendiary live show, outside of any script, their main maxim is “to have a good time” and to make each concert “a party”.
“What we basically do is focus on what this has been from the beginning, that there are four of us doing something that we like and where we have a good time. We don’t want to focus on any place other than that,” the band’s bassist, Martín Vallhonrat, stated in an interview with Efe.
As the first song from their new album says, they have become the new favorite group of an entire generation. Martín, along with Diego Ibáñez (vocals), Mario del Valle (guitar) and Juan Pedrayes (drums) has gone from zero to one hundred in just six years and are now a leading band on the Spanish scene.
For that you have to take care of yourself, put your feet on the ground. Vallhonrat acknowledges that they have a certain “ambition for growth”, but that the “essential” thing is not to get bored, to continue doing something that amuses them.
“Sometimes it becomes complicated, especially with the tours. We try to take care of each other. We talk a lot, to know where each one of us is at, ”she explains.
Its characteristic punk sound, with full-blown electric guitars, turn every Carolina Durante concert into a whole party.
They don’t know what the secret of his success is, but Vallhonrat aims to do things from “honesty”: “I don’t know if it always works, but I think the things that usually work are usually born from there. Then there is a point of luck, that what you like, the rest like, to have a certain degree of vision. But above all we try to work from honesty ”, he points out.
“Four kids”
Their album, “Cuatro chavales”, has slipped into the lists of the best of 2022. It was composed during the pandemic and with it they sought to release a “light” album, fleeing from “solemnity”.
“You can talk about serious or screwed things but from a less solemn point of view, more passionate and somehow more fun. You can sing, to make us tacky, about love or heartbreak without falling into that self-congratulatory shit”, affirms the bassist.
For this, irony, humor and exaggeration are fundamental tools. Also act naturally, without a pre-established script.
“We are not in favor of perfection, that does not seem like a failure to us. We don’t like that a music group is perfect and that everything is scripted,” says the musician, who recalls that they are a rock band, a genre that is characterized precisely by being “alive.”
“We don’t have a script, we have the ‘set-list’ and move on with everything,” he insists.
The public, the fans, connect with them. It was already demonstrated in the concert they gave at the end of January before 8,100 people at the WiZink Center in Madrid, a milestone within the reach of few.
“It was something that we had to do and that we had been anticipating for so long that at the time we were even a little unaware of what was happening. But for us it has been super special. It was gigantic, it was the ostia”, says the bass player.
Concert in Santiago
Today they stop in Santiago, in the Capitol room. Vallhonrat assures that in Galicia the public is treating them “incredibly”: “We are having a very good relationship with the public and we really want to return”, he stated.
The concert, in which they will mainly play songs from their latest album, will be opened by the band Los chivatos de Anna Frank.
“It will be a party, we hope so. It is also carnival”, highlighted the Vallhonrat, which has revealed that they already have few concerts left on the tour and that this year they will play little -in about ten festivals- because their objective is to compose and be able to release a new album by 2024.
