Lviv (Ukraine) (EFE).- The Ukrainian Defense Minister, Oleksii Reznikov, stated on Tuesday that he remains firm and strengthening the country’s defense, despite rumors that he could be dismissed in the coming days.
«Holding on. Thank you all for your support, as well as for the constructive criticism. We draw conclusions », wrote the head of the Ukrainian defense on his Twitter profile.
“We continue with the reforms. Even during the war. We are strengthening the defense and working for the victory. Glory to Ukraine!” Reznikov added in a short message.
The future of the Ukrainian Minister of Defense has been in doubt for a few days as a result of a scandal carried out by senior officials of his Ministry and which has forced the country’s president, Volodímir Zelenski, to remodel part of his administration.
Reznikov is one of the key players in Ukraine’s efforts to obtain modern weaponry from its foreign partners, but allegations that officials in his ministry have purchased products for the military at inflated prices have cast doubt on his continued tenure.
The head of Defense has denied all the allegations and has denounced that it is an attack by the press.
However, his deputy minister Viacheslav Shapoval eventually resigned and was later accused of purchasing bulletproof vests and other equipment at inflated prices.
Zelensky announces new appointments to reinforce border regions
The President of Ukraine has announced that he will appoint “officials with military experience” to be posted in various border regions of the country and on the front line with Russia.
In a message issued last night and published by local Ukrainian agencies, Zelensky made this announcement just a few days after dismissing dozens of senior officials from his administration after several corruption scandals broke out.
“We are strengthening our positions. In several regions, especially in the border and front-line regions, we are appointing officers with military experience,” the Ukrainian president said.
These new appointments “may serve to obtain greater efficiency in the protection (of the country) against the currently existing threats. I will inform (citizens) about each of those decisions,” Zelensky added.
Zelensky’s message coincides with the advances that the Moscow Army has been making in recent days in eastern Ukraine, in the Donbas area, bordering Russia, and with rumors of the possible dismissal of the current Defense Minister, Oleksii Reznikov. .
“We will combine the experience gained by our people in the defense of Ukraine, military experience, with specific management work in positions in the local and central government,” added Zelensky, who also decided last week to dismiss several heads of the regional administrations.
