Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The stage of the Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is already 90% of becoming the New York nightclub “Studio 54” which is inspired this year with its more technological proposal that, among other elements, it will include a roof for the first time in history.
The stage is an infrastructure 40 meters wide and 16 meters high at its highest point in which lighting and technology play a very important role in recreating the atmosphere of the Studio 54 New York club.
The rear led screen has more than 360 square meters and mobile elements that will allow you to play with the scenery in an innovative way, with curved screens that move, doors that are not traditional and that will also hold surprises during the different galas.
Since last January 9, with the closure of the space of the Santa Catalina park, the iron structures, the stands and the control tower have been erected, a work that complies with the established schedule, with about 90% of the structures and 90% of the decoration already finished, and with 85% assembled.
As the set designer for the Carnival of Las Palmas 2023, Sergio Macías, has pointed out, the work plan is being fulfilled “in time and form” to open this Friday with the proclamation and it is going “at a good pace”, despite the fact that the The work of the Metroguagua “has somewhat delayed the assembly in the park.”
LAST AUCTIONS
“The last auctions remain, touch-ups and waiting for us to give the starting signal on Friday,” he celebrated.
This year there will be “fewer volumetric pieces than in previous sets, but we have more advanced technology, with more meters of screen and elevation pieces,” he detailed.
Among the novelties, it stands out that on this occasion there will be a ceiling that “we have never had in the history of Carnival”, and that it will be “technical” in order to thus “hang the audiovisual world, image technology and screens”.
One of the great protagonists of this scenario will be a “disco ball”, which is “thematic icon”, and which this year “has a lifting system that differentiates it from what has been done in other years”.
For yet another year, Macías said, “pieces from 2020 will even be used for the overtures” with the aim of minimizing the material and making the most of the setting of previous years, because they are “pieces that have great quality and that are they keep for years so they can have a second and third life.”
As the architect and set designer explained, “technology is going to play a very important role”, and although “it will be a night scene that will not have the same”, it can also be enjoyed during the day.
As he has pointed out, “the prominence of the metallic elements will give it life in the daytime days of Carnival” to “bring out all its spectacularity” at night.
HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WORKING
To ensure that the stage already shines in the Santa Catalina Park, a hundred people are working intensely on tasks that began in November.
At this time, “painting details, touch-ups and, above all, programming of the systems, technicians and lighting and screens are missing”, to “be ready for Friday”, he explained.
The mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Augusto Hidalgo, has celebrated that the Studio 54 Carnival stage “is practically finished” so that this Friday “we can have the proclamation with a party that is going to be very loud and musical”, not only because of the town criers, Los Salvapantallas, but because they will be “enveloped by a stage that transmits that, the essence of disco music from the 70s.”
He has underlined the presence of “all the iconic elements that this club represented, such as the ball, as well as references to the Rolling Stones, with spectacular kisses” in what makes up “an impressive setting.”
The mayor has been satisfied that this stage is “always innovating but, at the same time, configuring itself as a comfortable place for contestants to perform their performances” and people “can see an impressive show day and night and different in all finery.”
In what will be the Carnival of the 25th anniversary of the Gala Drag and the last of the mayor, Augusto Hidalgo has highlighted that he has “learned a lot from the Carnival of Las Palmas in these eight years”, a lesson that he carries “with a smile, which It’s what you should get out of Carnival.”
A DIFFERENT YEAR
For her part, Councilor Inmaculada Medina has emphasized that “this year is a different year”, while highlighting the importance of the Carnival groups, stating that “without them”, this party “would not exist”.
Medina has highlighted that they have been “ten months preparing each and every one of the acts to be able to have the best carnival and that it be declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest.”
For the councilor, the greatest satisfaction is that “we can all enjoy the Carnival and that it does not become a subject of attacks, discussion and dispute.”
To this end, he said, work continues to “have the best party in the city and make it the most important party”, an objective for which “no effort and resources will be spared”. EFE
