London (EFE).- The Premier League signed a collaboration agreement this week with the Sorare company so that it can introduce stickers of Erling Haaland, Marcus Rashford, Mohamed Salah and the rest of the league players in its ‘fantasy’; a contract that will bring tens of millions a year to the English competition and that corroborates its investor appeal.
«Europeans are very passionate about their leagues, about their domestic competitions, but the Premier League reaches everywhere, it is global. That’s why we wanted to be there,” explains Aalok Kapoor, director of the company’s soccer section, to EFE.
What the company has achieved is to obtain the rights of the Premier League to include them in its ‘fantasy’ game, which relies on unique trading cards based on NFT technology.
The deal comes at a time when NFTs and cryptocurrencies are on the decline, but that hasn’t stopped the company from staying strong and being able to invest millions in partnering not just with the Premier League, but also with Major League Baseball and the NBA, as well as other soccer leagues in the world. Why?
“Because we have used that technology to advance, but if you go to our website and use our products, you will see that we are not and have never been a cryptocurrency company, nor a blockchain-based company,” says Kapoor.
“That is one of our strengths, which is why we have not been affected by the fall in cryptocurrencies,” he adds.
In addition, another reason to stand out from that ‘crash’ that led to the fall of Bitcoin and its derivatives, is that Sorare’s NFTs do have an application beyond speculation, since their ‘fantasy’ game has attracted more of 3 million users since its creation in 2018, which has increased the value of the company to more than 4,500 million euros in 2021.
Both Leo Messi and Kylian Mbappé are investors and ambassadors of the company and, with the current agreement (which will last for four seasons), the Premier League could also invest in the company.
In fact, the Premier has its own ‘fantasy’ league in which millions of players play each year (including footballers) and to which, given the right circumstances, these new stickers could be added.
«Our letters are yours, they belong in your portfolio. So you can use them in any game that accepts them. We don’t compete, because it can be complementary,” says Kapoor.
Of course, the company is in talks with the Gambling Commission in the United Kingdom to determine whether or not it is a gambling game. «We have nothing to do with gambling. Here if you have a sticker it is yours, you are not betting it. It is normal that when new things appear, there is research of this type, “says Kapoor.
This is the right website for everyone who wants to find out about this topic.
You realize a whole lot its almost hard to argue with you (not that I personally would want
to…HaHa). You definitely put a brand new spin on a subject which has been written about for decades.
Wonderful stuff, just great!
