Madrid (EFE) agreement, has admitted that a “strong discrepancy” remains between the government partners.
Montero has shown herself willing to continue “working all the hours” that are necessary to reach an agreement, and although she has considered that no penal reform will surely avoid sentence reductions, she has insisted that they will try to achieve consensus for this reform which will be undertaken “at the request” of the president, Pedro Sánchez, and the PSOE.
“I do not set any limits, what I want is an agreement, my team and I are working all the necessary hours as the socialist party does,” Montero assured RNE, who has admitted that the agreement between government partners is still far but possible
The minister has explained that she does not mind being called “arrogance” as long as the Government gives a united response to the offensive of the political, judicial and media right, and has shown herself willing to extend the sentences.
“It is working, the discrepancy is strong, but I am confident in achieving it, we have had very difficult negotiations” within the coalition executive, such as the cap on gas and other feminist laws.
“My obligation is to show my face and be there”
The secretary of Action of Podemos has assured, however, that she will continue to lead her ministry: “My obligation in a difficult moment is to show my face and be there, and protect the main feminist advance” in recent decades.
Regarding the possibility that the PSOE made the reform without its partner, he pointed out that “it is a possible scenario, they have the numbers, if they agree with the PP; I would not like to return to the penalties of violence and intimidation », he has asserted.
Irene Montero has defended the need to maintain the debate on the reform, as they will do next Sunday at the event ‘Did you consent or not? Only yes is yes’, which will bring together experts and heads of Podemos.
“We cannot stand still when it is questioned that consent” is at the center of the law. “Sentences can be raised, but that does not have to change the definition or subtypes depending on whether there is violence or not.”
The minister has admitted that “no reform is going to avoid lowering the sentences, but even so, as it is necessary to have a unitary response, it is necessary to do what is necessary except touching the definition of aggression.”
