Moscow, (EFE).- The Kremlin celebrated this Wednesday the initiative of Russian authorities and companies to offer cash rewards to the military for the capture or destruction of Western tanks on the battlefield in Ukraine.
“This again demonstrates the unity and desire of all to help to the best of their ability, directly or indirectly, the special military operation (in Ukraine) and the achievement of its goals,” said the spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dmitri Peskov, in his daily press conference.
This is how Peskov responded to the question about what he thought of the decision of the governor of Zabaikalie, Alexandr Osípov, to pay 3 million rubles (just over $42,000) to the inhabitants of that eastern Siberian region who capture a Western tank supplied to Ukraine.
According to the governor’s order, the destruction of a Western tank will be awarded one million rubles (about $14,000).
Noting that Ukraine has not yet received Western tanks, the Kremlin spokesman stressed that all such tanks will be destroyed.
“And if there are incentive measures like these, there will be, I think, more enthusiasm,” Peskov said, adding that Russian companies are also promoting similar initiatives.
This Monday the Russian company FORES announced that it will pay 5 million rubles (a little more than 71,000 dollars) to whoever destroys the first tank of the NATO countries and 500,000 rubles (a little more than 7,100 dollars) for each of the following,
Should Ukraine begin receiving Western fighter jets, “the financial reward for the first plane destroyed will be 15 million rubles (about $214,000),” the company added.
