Cáceres, Jan 25 (EFE).- Afro-Peruvian Susana Baca, who has 18 albums and three Latin Grammys for best folk album, two of them for “Lamento Negro” and “A capella”, as well as best recording (2011), will open the poster of the WOMAD Cáceres 2023 Festival, which will be held from May 11 to 14.
The organization announced this Wednesday the first artists of the XXVIII edition, including the South Africans “Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness”, of hedonistic funk music, and the duo formed by the British guitarist Justin Adams and the Italian Mauro Durante.
The festival, organized by the Consortium of the Gran Teatro de Cáceres and directed and produced by DD&Company Producciones, has also advanced the image of this year’s poster, the work of the Chilean artist Gonzo Martínez, who has collaborated with the festival for years.
On a toned photo of a part of the Golfines de Abajo palace in Cáceres, the black figure of the lion that symbolizes WOMAD stands out. “We want WOMAD Cáceres to once again be a benchmark for world music festivals, attracting artists with a long and recognized career and new emerging voices on the music scene on its stages,” said its director, Dania Dévora.
“Each year it is a new challenge to set up a poster of the artistic quality for which WOMAD always bets and the three big names that we present today are just an indication of the musical party that we are preparing in this edition”, he added.
The Plaza Mayor, the Plaza de San Jorge, the Carvajal Palace, the Pedrilla Museum, the Fimoteca, among other spaces, will continue to be part of the WOMAD Cáceres stages, which will once again complete its program with workshops, cultural activities around the World de las Palabras, world food and culture market and other proposals that will be announced.
