Madrid (EFE).- Every second of last year, 24 “bizums” were made with the immediate payment solution through the Spanish bank’s mobile phone, the use of which increased by 50% in 2022 and practically equaled the amount accumulated since the launch of Bizum in 2016.
According to the data provided today by the platform itself, Bizum registered 762 million operations last year (compared to 505 in 2021), which represents more than two million daily transactions, with a combined associated value of 40.7 billion euros. (versus 26,000 a year earlier).
“These figures highlight that Bizum is already part of the daily life of nearly 23 million Spaniards,” summarized the general director of Bizum, Ángel Nigorra, in a statement.
This platform allows payments to be made between people, in electronic commerce, donations to NGOs and social entities, and payments and collections in State Lotteries and Gambling.
In 2022, it joined Empsa (European Association of Mobile Payment Systems) to explore the possibilities of a European mobile payment network. In addition, it admitted the first entity from outside Spain to start offering its services in Andorra.
More than 3 million transactions in a single day
The record for transactions between individuals in a single day was recorded on December 1, with 3.3 million (38 per second).
In addition, during the past year, 15 million e-commerce purchases were paid through Bizum, more than double the number accumulated in all previous years, for a value of 870 million euros.
The record day for use in electronic commerce was Black Friday, on Friday, November 25, when 6.5 million euros were reached, a figure that doubles that reached the previous year.

Donations to non-profit entities amounted to 530,000 operations for 22.3 million euros, with December being the month with the highest volume.
Likewise, 226,000 State Lottery and Gambling payments were registered for 2.4 million euros, while prize collections were 24.7 million.
The record numbers of purchases in Lotteries were reached coinciding with the Christmas Lottery. The peak of operations took place one day before the draw, on December 21, with 1.5 million payments; and the record for prize collections occurred the day after the draw, on December 23, when the “bizumers” collected more than 3 million euros.
Objective, exceed 25 million users
For this year, the platform aims to reach 60,000 online businesses, compared to the current 42,000, and 25 million users, compared to 22.6 at the end of 2022.
As for transactions, it wants to reach 1,000 million transactions between individuals and exceed 25 million in electronic commerce.
