Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The Government of the Canary Islands has denied this Thursday that there is any intention or project to reduce or reduce the 75% discount for the displacement of residents and points out that it is an unsubstantiated rumor and a debate that has arisen “for some political and partisan interest”.
In the press conference after the Governing Council, the spokesman for the Executive, Julio Pérez, recalled that 75% are legally protected and asked that “scares and concerns that have no basis” not be generated.
“We have a lot of things to take care of and worry about. Information that says that the Government of Spain is thinking of reducing this advantage should not be fueled. It is not like this. Sometimes one does not know how to combat this type of rumors ”, Pérez lamented.
In this sense, he has underlined the benefits of the discount, which has caused, he said, an increase in the consumption of trips between the Canary Islands and the peninsula or on island routes and that the average price of tickets to the peninsula is around 300 euros, from for which the Canarian resident only pays 25%.
“A different thing is the initiative that is studying the implementation of a public service obligation system on certain airlines, with a limitation on prices that could be useful on some routes”, explained the spokesperson, who has insisted that this issue has no nothing to do with the discount.
Thus, Pérez has asked that demagogy not be used to give the impression that the discount, which he has described as “a conquest”, is in doubt. EFE
