Logroño, (EFE).- Every year Logroño receives more than 100,000 pilgrims from the Camino de Santiago, which is “a true emblem of this city”, for which the City Council “is going to maximize the virtual experience of the walker”, the mayor, Conrado Escobar, stated on Tuesday.
Escobar has participated in the route of the section of the Jacobean route as it passes through Logroño together with the president of the Rioja Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago, Juan Cruz, on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of Santiago Apóstol.
The mayor, before going through part of the Camino from the Fielato del Puente de Piedra, explained that it is necessary to “improve the signage” of the route and “build bridges with the hotel industry so that the walker can enjoy the city, which will have a new park on the Camino”.
For his part, Cruz stressed that the Day of Santiago Apóstol is “a great day for the associations of the French Way, delighted to receive those who want to do this section.”
He has detailed that the Logroño Municipal Hostel has received some 5,000 pilgrims so far this year, a figure “better than last year”; and has encouraged people to follow the Way, “at least once in their lives, and if it is not possible all at once, for weeks.”
