Logroño, (EFE).- The head of the Court for Violence against Women of La Rioja has agreed on Tuesday to unconditional imprisonment for an alleged crime of homicide for the man who was arrested last Saturday in Logroño after having found his wife dead in the address in which they resided.
The defendant has given a statement before the Court for about half an hour, the Superior Court of Justice of La Rioja has detailed in a note, in which he has only offered this information.
This 44-year-old man has spent this afternoon at the judicial disposal after remaining, since last Saturday, in the cells of the Superior Police Headquarters of La Rioja.
The arrest occurred on Saturday afternoon in the area known as La Isla, next to the fourth bridge over the Ebro, after being rescued from the river, into which he threw himself without knowing how to swim.
The first data from the investigation indicate that, presumably, he could also have tried to drown the three children of the couple, although one of them fled and asked for help.
This man, upon being arrested, admitted to the National Police agents that his wife, 34 years old and a trained psychologist, could be dead at home, where they found her bled and dead.
The minors are under the guardianship of the social services of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja, without having yet given a statement, according to sources of the investigation.
People close to the deceased, Salwa, have also told EFE that the initial forecast was that two maternal uncles of the minors would move to Logroño in the next few hours.
However, according to what the technicians have told them, they have decided to delay the arrival in the La Rioja capital from Germany, where they reside, until they have the required documentation to be able to take care of the minors and bury the victim.
The victim, her husband and their children arrived in Logroño in 2016 as Syrian refugees, after spending four years in a refugee camp in Lebanon, once they had to leave their country; and there are no complaints of gender violence.
