Santander, Jul 10 (EFE) at polling stations on 23J.
Sources from the Santander Electoral Board explain to EFE that, without a doubt, the holidays take the cake in terms of the most cited excuses, although it is true that many of its members have discovered that there is a music festival in Asturias, the ‘Boombastic’, due to the large number of potential polling station members who are claiming that they already have their ticket to evade that obligation.
From the Electoral Board they warn that it is not worth simply having contracted a trip or an activity to ‘get rid’.
You have to prove economic damage, or what is the same: that an economic outlay has already been made that cannot be recovered.
The allegations, more prepared
Holidays have been excused “all my life”, but never as much as now for 23J due to the dates of these generals.
In addition, before people were unaware that having the trip paid for could be a reason to avoid the table and they simply “put up with it”, while now “everyone is informed and has the documentation prepared”.
Among the most striking excuses that have passed through the hands of the officials of the Electoral Board is the “anger” of a woman over 65 years of age, who has already been called several times to be at the table and who is not the first time claiming This woman reproaches the Board “that it would not be so difficult for her to know who the over-65s are so as not to mention them.”
There is mixed “certain ignorance” about electoral procedures, which on the other hand is quite common in a good part of the population.
“People do not know that the draws are made by the municipalities and that the role of the Electoral Board in this regard is limited to receiving the allegations and resolving them. Here it is not raffled ”, they point out in this body.
In general, “people take all this with humor”, although in a more solemn tone they have also received an allegation from a person who uses “reasons of conscience” for not being part of the polling station because “his principles” do not allow him to Collaborate with a process you don’t share.
These days the members of the Electoral Boards work piecemeal for the allegations for 23J. In the case of Santander, there are eleven people who ensure that around 390 tables can be set up in a good part of the territory of Cantabria (judicial district of Santander, Medio Cudeyo and two municipalities of Santoña: Ribamontán al Mar and Ribamontán al Monte ).
His work is not only focused on the constitution of the tables and reviewing the excuses. They are also in charge of receiving the candidacies, verifying and publishing them, authorizing the spaces to place electoral propaganda and holding acts, or studying and resolving complaints, among other functions.
They have been working on elections since April 7 and “with a lot of homework.” In the case of the constitution of the polling stations, in addition, work is done against the clock because if allegations are accepted, the city council must be notified quickly so that they can carry out a new draw and that the ‘lucky’ person has time to claim whether you need it.
For this reason, these are very intense weeks for the Board, although they recognize that, despite everything, with the regional and municipal elections, the workload is greater.
