Logroño, (EFE).- The Paseo del Espolón de Logroño has been the scene where a minute of silence has been observed this Sunday in memory of the woman murdered this Saturday and whose husband has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the crime.
The minute of silence coincided while 12:00 p.m. sounded on Paseo del Espolón, in front of the headquarters of the Government Delegation in La Rioja, the institution that has convened this initiative and in which some 300 people have participated.
The president of the La Rioja Executive, Gonzalo Capellán; the mayor of Logroño, Conrado Escobar; and the Government delegate in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz, have attended the rally, together with representatives of the PP, PSOE, Vox and Podemos-IU.
Among those gathered, people were seen crying for what happened and for meeting this family, of Syrian origin and who had been in Logroño for 8 years. They have expressed their rejection of this type of crime and the desire that no more occur.
Arraiz, in statements to journalists, has indicated that all the indications show that it is a sexist murder and has asked for prudence because there are three minors in a “dramatic” situation.
He has insisted that women and society in general must report any indication that there may be a case of violence and has reiterated that the administration has the means to help those who suffer it.
The mayor of Logroño has congratulated the “magnificent” coordination work between the National and Local Police, has expressed the “unmitigated” rejection of an “execrable” crime and has called for an exercise of responsibility on the part of all to put the accent on attention to the three minors, who are especially uprooted.
For his part, Capellán, has advocated continuing to work with the tools that exist to fight, in a “resolute and fundamental” way, against all violence against women, from prevention to awareness raising and comprehensive care for victims. .
At the end of the minute of silence, members of the feminist collective of La Rioja and without it being foreseen in the call of the Government Delegation, have read a statement and have chanted slogans such as “without feminism, there is no democracy” and “if they touch us to one, they touch us all”.
They have displayed a banner with the slogan “For those who are not here, let’s stop this together! La Rioja will be the tomb of machismo”; and they have demanded measures and real positions against sexist violence.
The initial data of the investigation indicate that after the murder of the woman, the husband went to look for the three children in common in a library and took them to the Ebro river, where he threw himself without knowing how to swim.
The police chief of La Rioja, Manuel Laguna, has indicated that the investigation “advances”, although there are “many things to know” and has indicated that the detainee has not yet declared.
