València (EFE).- The institutional deputy secretary of the PP, Esteban González Pons, has criticized this Saturday, in which the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, visits Kiev, that a party that is part of the Executive rejects the shipment of weapons to Ukraine , because he understands that this position weakens the position of Spain.
González Pons spoke with these words during a colloquium in Valencia on the ‘Challenges of the Europe of the future’ that he shared with the Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, in his capacity as Vice President of the European People’s Party.
He sees it as right that Sánchez begins the semi-annual presidency of the Council of the European Union with a trip to Ukraine, but he regretted that this opportunity was taken “to denounce the delivery of arms to Ukraine and Spain’s position in NATO”.
“Pedro Sánchez has gone to Ukraine taking sanchismo with him, he greets Zelenski with a government that is criticizing him from behind and has decided not to support him,” he lamented, pointing out that Spain deserves a government that supports the president.
It is “unheard of” that there are “unexpected” elections during the Spanish presidency of the EU
The deputy secretary of the PP has described as “unheard of” that “unexpected” elections are called while the European presidency is represented and the electoral campaign overlaps with the acts of that presidency.
However, he said, in the event that Pedro Sánchez loses the elections on 23J, the Government of Spain must have the height of State to make a transfer of the European presidency at the end of July or the beginning of August, so that it continues “without alteration ”.
And he has guaranteed that if there is a change of government in Spain, the PP “will assume the European presidency with a sense of State.”
Schinas: Spain faces big issues
The vice president of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, has indicated that Spain will have “a great presidency” and is facing “very big and urgent issues”, such as the revision of the rules of the stability pact and the community budget, and the European migration pact.
In this regard, Schinas has defended how essential it is to organize “an orderly system” of the labor movement in the specialties that the European Union needs, with “rules, calm, legality and with conditions”, a proposal that he has summarized with one sentence: “There are You have to open a door in the house so that people stop coming in through the windows.”
Migrants arriving in member countries have to live according to the values and principles that govern European society, respect religion, have tolerance and respect the role of women.
González Pons has indicated, for his part, that the northern countries must understand that the southern border of Europe is theirs, and collaborate in its maintenance, and has advocated that the Latin American population be included in the European migration pact, that it is “as European as the one that was born on the continent”.
Regarding trade agreements with third countries for agri-food products, Schinas has assured that the EU’s time of innocence is over and cannot allow “lax policies that do not make European agriculture a lever for competitiveness”, and has stated that they will not tolerate attempts to introduce “obstacles” from third countries.
