Barcelona, June 30 (EFE).- The president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, has highlighted tonight the “new resurgence” of Galicia as a place of open doors both for the return of Galicians residing abroad and for all those who want to invest and create wealth in this community.
Rueda underlined this “country commitment” during the annual dinner of the Association of Galician Businessmen of Catalonia (AEGA-CAT) in which the entity has awarded representatives from the world of business, entrepreneurship, culture, the arts, science and medicine, solidarity action, sports and communication.
The Galician president has highlighted the “Galicia Returns” strategy, aimed at facilitating the return of Galicians from abroad, which can also become a reference for other autonomous communities.
He has affirmed that Galicia has gone from being “a land of farewells to a land of welcome” and has invited all those who want to create wealth and employment to bet on this community.
In this sense, according to a statement from the Xunta, the Galician president has highlighted that Galicia has some twenty industrial projects with great traction capacity that were attracted “by stability, administrative facilities and incentives to settle in Galicia”.
“Our economic model works. That is why in 2023 we will grow above expectations and in 2024 above 2%”, said Rueda, who also underlined Galicia’s tourism drive
In addition to the presence of Alfonso Rueda, the “Galician Excellence” awards ceremony was attended by the Government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, the regional delegate of the Generalitat, Joan Borràs, and the Commissioner for Culture and Industry Creatives of Barcelona City Council, Xavier Marcé.
As reported by AEGA-CAT in a statement, the winners are Galician professionals recognized for “their human qualities, their successful professional careers and the pride always shown by their origins”.
In the company category, the general director of the Froiz supermarket group, José María Froiz, was awarded, and in the new entrepreneurs category, the co-founder and CEO of the Lazzaro technology company, Carlota Corzo.
In Science and Medicine, the head of the melanoma group at the National Cancer Research Center, María Soledad Soengas, who also chairs the Spanish Association for Cancer Research, was awarded.
The Galician Alzheimer Federation (FAGAL) has received the “Solidarity Action” award in the figure of its president María Isabel Gey Pérez, while the actor Luís Zahera has been recognized in the “Arts” category and the soccer player Verónica Boquete in the sports.
For her part, the journalist Victoria Prego has received the award from Galician businessmen in the Communication section for her extensive professional career.
In an act with a wide presence from the Catalan and Galician economic and social spheres, the president of AEGA-CAT and CEO of Filmax, Carlos Fernández, stated that each of the winners “has demonstrated their commitment to their values and principles”.
The event was attended by numerous representatives of the economic and social panorama of Galicia and Catalonia such as, among others, the president of Hotusa, Amancio López, that of the Hesperia group, José Antonio Castro, that of Imecsa, José Barreiro, or Enrique Tomás, president of the chain of the same name in the food sector.
The Association of Galician Businessmen of Catalonia (AEGA-CAT) brings together more than five hundred companies and was created in 1989 with the intention of bringing together all Galician businessmen based in Catalonia, promoting business opportunities among members and channeling investments towards Galicia. .
