Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE) with 35 deputies in Parliament, on the verge of an absolute majority.
This has been confirmed by the CC leader and candidate for the Presidency of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, after sealing the pact with the president of AHI, Javier Armas, and has advanced that on Thursday they will do the same with the Agrupación Socialista Gomera (ASG), led by Casimiro Curbelo, with whose votes -in the 28M elections he obtained three seats- he would have ensured his investiture.
Javier Armas has shown his satisfaction because it means that AHI has achieved one of the objectives set at the beginning of the electoral process, which was to help build the Canary Islands and improve the living conditions of the people of El Hierro.
The president of AHI has considered that it will provide a vision of the westernmost islands, has added that in recent years the disadvantaged situation has worsened, and has recalled that the law of Islas Verdes has not been developed, which “gives very good for smaller islands.”
Javier Armas has highlighted that this agreement includes taking measures against the high cost of living and the price of fuel, but also subsidizing or reducing taxation, and above all addressing the demographic challenge because in La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera the population has declined or has stagnated.
It will also be essential to achieve a new public service obligation model, which has to go through having a new ship that always keeps supply above demand, both for vehicles and cargo, and Javier Armas has also referred to issues like housing.
Fernando Clavijo has declared that what was launched in 2015 to work differently on each island, will now be updated, and has pointed out that after a “parenthesis” during which the difference between the islands has increased now touch radically change.
Javier Armas went on to say that El Hierro has not done well in recent years, since he has insisted that its inhabitants have become impoverished, so that, he commented, they have paid 3,000 euros more per year than the rest of Canaries due to the high price of fuels.
Fernando Clavijo has also said that tomorrow it is planned to sign an agreement with the Gomera Socialist Group (ASG), and has indicated that it has been “relatively easy” to reach these agreements because what is requested are the rights of people from El Hierro and Gomero.
He has valued the 2015 Canary Islands development fund and has opined that if the interest of the citizenry is put above all, it is easy to reach an agreement.
Regarding specific measures, Fernando Clavijo has referred to the fact that 99 percent of the fuel tax must be modified in the case of the green islands, and in the shopping cart, offset transport so that there are no additional costs. EFE
