Pamplona (EFE).- Professor Ramón Gonzalo, who took office this Friday as rector of the Public University of Navarra, has proposed to the future Government the creation of an “innovative and facilitative” Foral University Law, which acts as “motor and catalyst of growth and evolution” of the academic center.
In his speech at this event, chaired by the Acting President of the Government of Navarra, María Chivite, the rector has opted to have “a strategy that allows us to effectively face the immediate and future challenges of our University”.
After emphasizing that people “are the central axis of any organization”, the rector pointed out that one of the challenges for the coming years is to advance in the implementation of a Consolidation Plan for the Staff Structure and Development of Human Capital
Also implement a policy that “clearly commits to promoting the recruitment, attraction and retention of talent that allows our institution to advance in its strengthening”.
The pandemic and the war
Among other challenges, the rector, who has revalidated the position in the last elections, has also alluded to digital transformation and the promotion of research, as well as “being an example and benchmark in key issues for tomorrow’s society”.
Gonzalo has assured that the present and the future “are conditioned by a past marked by a global pandemic and by a war in Europe.”
“If we add to these events the aggressive process of legislative modification that the Government is carrying out, we find ourselves in a context that represents an enormous challenge for our university in the coming years,” he stated.
Medicine degree
The inauguration ceremony was closed by President María Chivite, who recalled that since the 2019-2020 academic year, the UPNA has taught the degree in Medicine and, since then, “its implementation has been developing successfully, both due to the level of students it welcomes as well as the preparation of the teaching staff”.
For the next academic year, he said, there will be 10 new places for this degree, which from the 2025-2026 academic year will sit in the classrooms of the new Health Sciences building.
The president also referred to the challenges facing the teaching center, including the “full performance” development of the public health ecosystem and the launch of the next course of the Thermal Engineering degree, which will be the first dual degree of the UPNA and one of the few existing in Spain.
The new rectory team
Likewise, the double degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and Physiotherapy will begin next year in Tudela, a venue that should become “a true university city”.
In this act, attended by the main Navarrese authorities, regional parliamentarians and members of the Security Forces, the members of the management team that will accompany Gonzalo in managing the University for the next few years have taken office.
The rector has also signed the resolution to appoint the general secretary, Roldán Jimeno. After the inauguration ceremony, a session of the UPNA Social Council was held in which the proposed appointment of Joaquín Romero as manager of the center was approved.
