Madrid (EFE).- The candidate of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has revealed in a speech before his party that he has contacted both Vox and the PNV in order to achieve his inauguration as Prime Minister, for which he has already obtained the yes of UPN and is on that “path” with Coalición Canaria, a formation with which he has also spoken.
The leader of the Popular Party has admitted to his party that “with the same intensity that the polls failed” in 23J, the formation has not reached the “expectations”, although he says he does not regret having demanded “to win by a lot compared to those who are satisfied with losing by less”.
Feijóo has reported on his round of talks, which began yesterday with Pedro Sánchez, during his open speech before the National Board of Directors, of which the barons of the formation are a part, whom he has brought together after winning the general elections with 136 seats but without achieving a sufficient majority to form a government.
The leader of the PP has affirmed that he will continue the talks with the PSOE when the final count of the vote of residents abroad (CERA) is known and that, in the meantime, he will continue to talk with the other parties, including Vox.
“We will continue the talks in the next week with the approach of whether -Vox- is willing to initiate a change of the Sanchista government or not,” he added.
With 136 seats, Feijóo has remained 40 short of an absolute majority and, in the absence of full scrutiny, to prevail over Pedro Sánchez’s bloc he would need the yes of the 33 Vox deputies, the UPN deputy -which he already has-, the Canarian Coalition and the support of the PNV, which would imply reaching an agreement between opposing parties.
Based on the results of 23J, Feijóo has outlined three scenarios before his own: that the most voted rule, the blockade or that “all those who have lost explore an alternative majority with the explicit or tacit support of populist and pro-independence parties”.
I would need the abstention of the left
With 136 seats, Feijóo has remained forty short of an absolute majority and, in the absence of full scrutiny, the PP would only manage to add 171 yeses if it manages to reach an agreement with Vox, the Canary Islands Coalition and UPN.
However, this sum, already complex in itself, would be insufficient to achieve more no’s than yes’s, which is why the PP would need in addition to the PNV or the abstention of the left. Vox has also communicated that it would not vote with the Basque nationalists.
With the current scenario, the PSOE (122) with its partners (31 from Sumar, 7 from ERC, 6 from EH Bildu, 5 from PNV and 1 from BNG) would add up to 172, one above the other block and Junts would have abstention as the key to governance.
UPN transmits to Feijóo its support in a possible investiture
The president of the Unión del Pueblo Navarro (UPN), Javier Esparza, has communicated to the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the willingness of the regionalists to support him with a view to his possible investiture.
Esparza has specified about the possibility that the popular ones reach some kind of agreement with Vox, that they are going to “vote for Feijóo”: “He will know with whom he has to reach or stop reaching agreements.”
Despite running separately in these elections and the critical messages that regionalists and popular members have exchanged during the campaign, UPN has insisted at all times that they want Alberto Núñez Feijóo to be president, although yes, it has been warned in various interventions that they will be “demanding and will ask for investment in Navarra”.
Alone, UPN has achieved in these elections a representative in the Congress of Deputies, Alberto Catalán, whose vote is especially relevant in view of the fact that Núñez Feijóo has won the elections with 136 seats but without achieving a sufficient majority to form a government.
CC will not support governments that include the far right or the far left
The Canarian Coalition is open to negotiating with any candidate who presents himself for the investiture, but it will not support him if he incorporates “the extreme right” or “the extreme left” into his government, according to his deputy elected for Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Cristina Valido.
The National Executive of the Canary Islands Coalition is scheduled to meet this afternoon at 6:00 p.m. (island time) in Tenerife to analyze the election results and assess the role that its only seat in Congress can play.
Valido has stressed that the Canary Islands Coalition already clearly expressed in the campaign for the regional elections in May and in the general elections in July what its red lines are: it will not govern with Vox nor will it support governments in which Vox is present.
And he said the same thing at the time with respect to Podemos.
“We are going to negotiate with whoever wants to present the investiture, but if they incorporate the extreme left or the extreme right into their government, we can not vote on the investiture. We have said it throughout the campaign and now we cannot do or say anything else”, Valido pointed out on Radio Marca Tenerife.
At the moment, the Canary Islands Coalition has the PP as a government partner in the Canary Islands Executive, in the councils of Tenerife and Lanzarote and in the Santa Cruz City Council, among other institutions.
Popular leaders close ranks with Feijóo and legitimize his investiture
Autonomous presidents and popular barons have closed ranks around the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, one day after the general elections and have agreed that he is the legitimate candidate to “try” to form a government due to his “obvious” electoral victory.
This has been stated before the meeting of the National Board of Directors of the PP, the party’s largest decision-making body between congresses, which Feijóo has convened this Monday to analyze the result of 23J and, already at the entrance, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has made herself at his “entire disposal”.
Both Ayuso and the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno, have referred in the same term to Feijóo’s leadership, and it is that, as they have warned, it is not in question, since he has achieved “great things” in a short time, such as winning the general elections.
In addition, the barons of the PP hope that Alberto Núñez Feijóo will appear at the investiture even if he does not have support and is unsuccessful, and this has been stated by the president of the Junta de Andalucía, who believes that when one is the “favorite” of the Spaniards, he has that “obligation”.
