Barcelona (EFE) Together in the Barcelona Provincial Council.
The PSC and JxCat have governed this last term together in the Barcelona Provincial Council with great harmony and, according to socialist sources consulted by EFE, the initial intention was to try to maintain that pact if the polls endorsed it.
After the results of the elections on Sunday, the PSC has achieved 18 representatives -it is possible that it will drop to 17 in the count that begins tomorrow-; Junts 11 -it could go up to 12-, ERC 11, PP 4, Tot Terrassa 1 and Vox 1. The majority of PSC and Junts would give great stability to the institution, recall the sources consulted.
In addition, the Socialists interpret the recent statements by the Republicans Oriol Junqueras and Pere Aragonés as a return to the radicalization of the independentistas to try to reverse their poor results in the municipal elections, with the general ones less than two months away.
But a sector of the Socialists views with concern the idea of having to form an alternative majority in the Provincial Council if Collboni continues trying to wrest the mayoralty from Trias, with the consequent reaction of Junts in the Provincial Council. In JxCat, two sectors coexist: supporters of moderation and those who reject any pact with the PSC.
This alternative majority to the PSC-Junts pact would involve adding to the PSC (17) the deputies of the commons (5) and Tot per Terrassa (1), which would give a block of 23, the same as Junts (12) and ERC would add (eleven).
The PP of Xavier García Albiol, mayor in péctore of Badalona and a strong man of his party in this institution, would then have the key to unravel the tie if he gives up at least one or two of his votes so that the PSC can once again win the presidency of the institution.
In any case, popular sources consulted by Efe admit that at the moment Albiol is only focused on taking over the reins of the Badalona City Council, which will take place on Saturday, June 17.
To complicate everything further, the plenary session of the Barcelona Provincial Council could be held a week before the 23J elections, in the middle of the electoral campaign, in an institution in which the presidency goes to whoever gets the most votes in plenary session. The absolute majority is 24 votes.
