Mexico City (EFE).- The famous actress Salma Hayek returns with the production of “I want your life” to the Mexican cinema, a task to which she has dedicated herself and whose work has been key to the future of the project, highlighted the protagonists of the film in an interview with EFE.
“She was on Zoom at the first reading, and we didn’t know it. She was great from the second one, the fact that she supervised the project so much speaks of how involved she was, ”said Mexican Jesús Zavala.
The actor stressed that Hayek made recommendations, both acting and technical, so he considered that their participation went much further than simply putting their name on the film.
Bárbara de Regil agreed and commented that the producer “was always taking care of the project” and admitted that they felt “apapachado” (spoiled) by her.
“Happy that people who break it abroad return to the country and produce, it is important. I think that once you pulled the chair, you should pull it for others. It is the responsibility that we all have, each one from his trench and his place, ”considered, on her part, Natalia Téllez.
Hayek, one of the most international Mexican actresses, has carved out an extensive career in Hollywood participating in films such as “From Dusk Till Down” (1996), “After the Sunset” (2004), “Lonely Hearts” (2006) and “House of Gucci” (2021).
football as driver
“Quiero tu vida” narrates the life of Nico Zamora, a soccer player for Club América, one of the teams with the most history in Mexico, who is injured when he is close to reaching the climax of his career and whose dreams are suddenly cut short.
“He lives the depression of what could have been if he had not had the accident,” explained the Mexican Erick Elías, who plays the protagonist.
However, he magically receives a second chance, in which he will live the life of fame, success and money that he fantasized about, although it ends up not being what he expected.
“In the end, he realizes that he was really happy with what he already had,” revealed Elías.
Although the film is structured around the world of soccer, he indicated, it is just a tool to tell a story of successes and failures, broken dreams and second chances.
“Soccer is not the main character, it is one more element that helps to enter the universe (of the film). It is a universal language and makes it a perfect common thread, but there is much more”, added Zavala, who plays a loyal friend of Nico’s.
Téllez, along the same lines, pointed out that in a “terribly soccer-loving” country like Mexico, it was a good resource to make “the path of ego, failure and loss” more understandable that the protagonist travels.
“I want your life”
Although the film narrates the future of a man who wanted to live a reality that was not his own, its protagonists warned of the dangers of longing for the life of others.
“With social networks we are much more exposed all the time to wanting what we don’t have, believing that we are less than what we really are and wanting another body, another hair, another vacation. There is a very fine line to know how to take care of mental health ”, explained Zuria Vega, who plays the role of Nico’s wife.
That is a problem that, he said, many young people have, so through a family film they tried to convey that message that he considered important.
“It is very dangerous to be comparing, you must not get carried away there. You have to be grateful, see what life gives you at that moment and enjoy it”, added Zavala.
Where is the happiness?
In “I want your life”, Nico craves the fame of the successful soccer player, because he believes that he will find happiness there. The actors and actresses, all with established careers in film and television, and the consequent public recognition, agreed that he must be sought elsewhere.
“They have educated us socially so that the more in chinga (busy) you are, the more you are working, while you can earn more… But happiness is not there,” said Zavala.
In this regard, Téllez recalled that the busiest moment of his life at work coincided with the saddest personally.
“If the individual does not put himself first, the world can crush him. And that’s what the movie is about, ”she said.
For Vega, happiness is hidden in the house where her children and her husband are waiting for her; for Elijah, in the process of things; and for de Regil, in the small details, from going to bed to listening to an audiobook in the car.
