Toledo (EFE).- The Secretary General of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda, Ione Belarra, has responded to the PSOE to “focus on governing” because there is “practically” a year left in the legislature and there are important issues pending such as the housing law, and added that “we aspire” to close the agreement between Podemos and Sumar.
In statements to journalists this Thursday before touring the ecological path of the Tagus River, in Toledo, Belarra has been asked about the words of Pedro Sánchez in which he was in favor of an understanding between Sumar and Podemos and has responded that the PSOE must concentrate on governing since “we cannot be doing electoralism all the time.”
“What you have to do is govern, approve this housing law, which is extremely urgent for the people of our country, and bump into that basic shopping basket once and for all,” he pointed out.
He has also stated that “it is evident” that the media “related” to the PSOE are going to tell Yolanda Díaz “that she can shoot alone, that she can shoot without Podemos”, in response to which he said that “we think we need a Podemos strong to revalidate the coalition government” and manage to be the first force in the government because “there are some changes that will not come until Podemos has the leadership of the Government”, he pointed out.
Regarding Podemos and Sumar, Ione Belarra explained that Podemos has built more unity candidacies “than ever” for the upcoming municipal and regional elections in May, including Castilla-La Mancha and Valencia, which she has said is “a plaza key” for the elections.
“Now it’s up to Yolanda Díaz to decide if she also wants to be the unit’s candidate, it will be for us,” said Belarra, who added that Podemos “has a very well-proven service record” and has shown that it is they can build “wide, diverse, plural spaces, in which we all feel comfortable and well represented”.
The general secretary of Podemos has stressed that she aspires to a coalition agreement between Podemos and Sumar and “it is Yolanda who has to decide if she wants to be a unit candidate.”
