València (EFE).- The Castellón Provincial Prosecutor’s Office has opened criminal investigation proceedings for the Villanueva de Viver fire, which devastated around 4,700 hectares of forest in the interior regions of Castellón and part of Teruel.
Within the framework of this investigation, the Civil Guard has already summoned four people who carried out maintenance work in the place where the flames originated to testify, as explained on March 25 by the Government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé.
No one charged yet for the fire
However, the court has not yet made any summons or charged anyone in the framework of this case, which is officially open for a forest fire crime.
These proceedings have been transferred to a court in Segorbe, as confirmed by the public ministry, and they are waiting for the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard to send the extension of the report that has given rise to this investigation.
After the fire, the Generalitat will open an office in Montanejos to provide technical and expert support to the municipalities affected by the fire that started in Villanueva de Viver and help them process the aid. It will also approve a comprehensive recovery plan with global measures to “size the economy” of these populations.

In addition, the experts will also be available to the municipalities to carry out all assessments of the damage caused by the fire, as well as to process the files whose purpose is to compensate both private and public owners for the damage caused.
The staff of this office will travel to the different towns, so the residents will not need to go to Montanejos. There they will be able to carry out the assessments and offer all the information to the neighbors.
The recovery plan will be approved both for the municipalities affected by this Alto Mijares fire and for those affected by the Bejís fire last summer.
