kyiv (EFE).- Russian troops achieve marginal results in the battle for Bakhmut, but fail to take the city, said today the Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister, Hanna Malyar.
The Russian army “concentrates its greatest efforts on establishing control over Bakhmut, tries to advance towards the center of the city, in some areas it has made variable minor progress. But he fails to take the city. Intense fighting continues around and in the city itself, ”he specified in a message on Telegram.
He added that the situation in the east in the areas of the defensive operation is still quite complicated.
“The aggressor is carrying out major offensives simultaneously in four directions, namely: Liman, Bakhmut, Maryinka and Avdiivka. Predominantly unsuccessful,” he stated.
He added that “the enemy is also carrying out offensive operations in the Avdiivka area to encircle the city and block supply routes” and that “in addition, fighting continues in Bilohorivka and in Maryinka.”
According to analysts from the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian forces have retaken their positions around Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. However, Russian troops have made some progress in the city itself.
Shoigu and the military command discuss the supply of ammunition to the troops in Ukraine
The Russian Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu, discussed today with the command of the group of troops fighting in Ukraine the supply of ammunition, and stated that the production of conventional and high-precision weapons have multiplied.
The Army General heard reports on the situation in Ukraine from the different military commanders, including the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valeri Guerasimov, who leads the Russian military campaign in the neighboring country, reported the Ministry of Defense in a statement.
During the meeting, Shoigu emphasized that “the supply of weapons to the forces is subject to constant monitoring by the Government and the Ministry of Defense, which has made it possible to determine the volume of supply of the most demanded ammunition and take” the measures necessary to increase it.
The West has repeatedly claimed over the past 402 days of armed conflict in Ukraine that Russia suffers from a shortage of ammunition and precision weapons.
Also the head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, recently accused the command of the Ministry of Defense in Moscow of not supplying enough ammunition to his mercenaries in Donbas.
Russia assumes this Saturday the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, a responsibility that it will occupy for a month and that is fundamentally formal, but that has angered the Ukrainian government and has generated calls for a boycott.
