The regional government activated last Thursday night, when 25 outbreaks were recorded in nineteen councils, the Forest Fire Plan of the Principality of Asturias (INFOPA) in the emergency phase in zero situation.
This phase, the lowest of the four contemplated in the plan, is reserved for situations in which one or several simultaneous forest fires are recorded that can be controlled with the means and resources assigned to the plan.
65 councils at extreme risk
According to the daily index published this Wednesday by the Ministry of Rural Affairs, practically all of Asturias is at extreme risk due to forest fires.
65 councils are at extreme risk, while the remaining 13 are at very high risk, all of them in the central and eastern coastal strip: Avilés, Cabranes, Caravia, Carreño, Colunga, Corvera, Gijón, Gozón, Llanes, Peñamellera Alta , Ribadedeva, Ribadesella and Villaviciosa.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts for this Wednesday in Asturias a day without precipitation with a new rise in temperatures, which could reach 28 or 29 degrees in some parts of the community, and very strong gusts of wind in the Cordillera, conditions that could make extinction work difficult.
