Rome (EFE).- The filmmakers Bradley Cooper, Sofia Coppola, Michael Mann and David Fincher will compete with their respective films for the Golden Lion at the 80th Venice Film Festival, as announced today by the organizers of the contest, which will start on August 30.
Bradley Cooper, who already premiered his directorial debut at the Mostra, “A star is born” (2018), will compete with “Maestro”, starring Carey Muligan about the marital life of musician Leonard Bernstein.
Sofia Coppola for her part will premiere “Priscilla”, about Elvis’s wife, David Fincher will do so with “The killer”, starring Michael Fassbender and Mann with the expected “Ferrari”, with Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz.
Pablo Larraín and Michel Franco, in the race for the Venetian Golden Lion
The Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín and the Mexican Michel Franco will compete with “El conde” and “Memory”, respectively, for the Golden Lion of the 80th Venice Festival, as announced by the organizers of the contest on Tuesday.
The two directors, frequent in the Venetian contest, are the only Hispanics that are part of the Official Selection of 23 films of the Mostra, which starts on August 30.
Larraín will present “El conde”, with a vampiric Augusto Pinochet, while Franco will compete with “Memory”, starring Jessica Chastain and Peter Sasgaard.
Penélope Cruz repeats in the Mostra competition aboard “Ferrari”
The Spanish actress Penelope Cruz will return this year to the Venice Film Festival with the film “Ferrari”, starring Adam Driver and who will aspire to the Golden Lion, as announced today by the organizers of the contest, which starts on August 30.
Cruz has become in recent years one of the frequent stars of the Venetian Mostra, which in 2021 consecrated her with her Volpi Cup for Best Actress for “Madres Paralelas”, by Pedro Almodóvar.
An award that this year could be repeated with this film in the competition section, made up of a total of 23 films.
In this 80th edition, which will take place from August 30 to September 9, the Madrid-born actress will premiere “Ferrari”, the new film by American director Michael Mann about the legendary founder and driver of the Italian team, Enzo Ferrari.
