After sweeping the US box office since its premiere, the phenomenon “Barbenheimer” -the combination of the two most anticipated films of the year on the same release date, “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”, by Christopher Nolan, also lead the ranking of most viewed films in Spain.
As sources from the consulting firm ComScore Spain have pointed out to EFE, “Barbie” is “an unstoppable wave and it is difficult to predict what its final result will be at the box office.”
And just as important, the sources add, is that “together with “Oppenheimer”, it has generated an incredible ‘buzz’ – the traditional ‘word of mouth’ – worldwide. They’re feeding each other and that’s going to carry over to the rest of the movies over the next few days.”
“Barbie” is also the film from a major (large companies, in this case, Warner Bros.) that has achieved better box office numbers at its premiere, above some mythical ones, such as the “Fast & Furious” saga. “The significant thing is during the week he continues to have a magnificent behavior.”
Thus, the majority of Spanish viewers chose “Barbie”, followed closely by “Oppenheimer” -the biopic about the physicist who created the atomic bomb in the 1940s-, “Elemental”, the latest Disney animated film that has remained in the top positions since its premiere on July 14, and the fifth installment of the horror saga “Insidious: The Red Door”, in fourth place.
In the fifth he repeats Tom Cruise and his umpteenth installment of “Mission Impossible: Deadly Judgment.” Part One”, followed by Santiago Segura’s summer family comedy “Vacaciones de verano”, the first Spanish on the list, and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” in seventh place at the box office.
“Spider-man: Crossing the Multiverse”, released on June 2, continues in eighth place, and in ninth, the second Spanish in the ranking, “I am loving you madly”, the first feature film by Alejandro Marín after his renowned series “Maricón perdido”, about the LGTBI+ world of the eighties in Spain.
Another animated film closes the list at number 10, this time from Dreamwork (“Shrek” or “The Croods”), which has also been among viewers’ favorites for weeks, “Ruby: Adventures of a Teenage Kraken”.
