San Sebastián (EFE).- The general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, stated this Monday that the electoral results in Euskadi, both those collected by the PSE and by his own formation, have made it clear that the Basques do not want a PP and Vox government, so its 6 deputies will fulfill said mandate “without speculating”.
Otegi has appeared at a press conference in San Sebastián after the EH Bildu Political Table has met this morning to analyze the results of yesterday’s general elections, the “best in history” in generals for the nationalist left, as indicated.
In his opinion, “the first message” sent by the Basque electorate is that “it does not want the reactionary bloc to govern in any way.”
And it has done so, Otegi explained, using “the useful vote in a double direction.” In the first place, by reinforcing the PSE-EE and the PSN until they become the leading force in Euskadi and Navarra, which the pro-independence leader understands as “useful instrumental, conjunctural vote, moved more by fear than by hope in a political project”.
Citizens have found “usefulness” in voting for EH Bildu, says Otegi
Secondly, he said, citizens have found “usefulness” in voting for EH Bildu with the same objective, that of blocking the way for a PP and Vox government in Spain.
After highlighting that “the reactionary bloc has not achieved its objectives” because “they took it for granted that they were going to obtain an absolute majority”, Otegi pointed out that the “window of opportunity” that opened in the previous legislature “is still open”, although he has admitted that “it is difficult” because “arithmetic is what it is”.
“But we continue to think that it is still possible,” Otegi added, referring to that “window of opportunity” which, in his opinion, constitutes the possibility of adding votes to form an alternative majority to PP-Vox.
“We do not speculate, we keep our word, if it depends on EH Bildu the balance will tip to the left and to sovereignty”, the independence leader has abounded.
Otegi has described his results as “historic, the best in general elections”, although they have not surpassed those achieved by Amaiur in 2011, when he obtained more than 334,000 votes and won 7 seats. EH Bildu yesterday added 333,362 votes and 6 deputies.
The independence leader has qualified that the results are better because they have occurred in “more difficult” historical circumstances, in a context of polarization, in which “the effort for peace was not rewarded so much, but rather the political program is being voted on”.
The 2011 elections, when the pro-independence left achieved its best results with the Amaiur brand, were held a month after ETA announced the end of its terrorist activity.
The Abertzale leader has described the upward trend of EH Bildu as “structural”, as demonstrated by the fact that, even when abstention grows, the formation adds more support.
He has highlighted that yesterday there were only three political forces that grew in votes, the PP, the PSOE and EH Bildu. “More and more people believe that voting for EH Bildu is useful to improve their lives,” he added.
