Madrid (EFE).- With the heat, elegance goes on vacation and anything goes, fostered by the desire for comfort, the boom in tattoos and the cult of the body, “but good taste is not incompatible with summer, you can dress without incurring aesthetic violations,” explains a fashion expert.
The fashion researcher Román Padín told EFE that in summer women and men tend to opt for comfort, an attitude that leads to relaxing the way they dress, “even reaching bad taste.”
Circumstances that stimulate elegance in dressing
There are several circumstances that encourage people to park elegance in their dress; The first, the heat, says Padín, who recalls that to alleviate the high temperatures, people tend to “take off their clothes.”
Also, tattoo culture is a reality in today’s society. If before it was reserved for people of dubious morality, today it has become just another accessory. “The objective is to exhibit them, for which time and money have been invested.”
Therefore, “it is logical that people want to show them,” explains Padín, who considers that a more appropriate fashion should be thought of, “that is, clothing with a certain aesthetic, which avoids scandalous nudity per se.”
The concept of comfort and tattoos
The concept of comfort also influences: “There is a maximum concern for being comfortable, when before what prevailed was elegance, being ‘chic'”.
In this trend of “dressing without decorum” the cult of the body also influences. “They want to show the muscles worked in the gym and also the parts of the body that have been retouched with a scalpel.”
Throughout the summer, tacky outfits are appreciated that cause shock in the defenders of good taste. Today, in the 21st century, it is impossible to eradicate the use of shirts unbuttoned to the navel that shamelessly reveal sun-scorched bellies.
It continues with the vision of devout vacationers eating sardine skewers and paellas bare-chested, shirtless, as well as modern ones who display biceps in t-shirts with flared armholes.
The gentlemen who wear the turbo swimsuit to have a beer at the beach bar or those who choose the explorer “look” with bermuda shorts full of pockets, “trekking” boots, a safari hat with a mosquito net included to walk through the streets of Paris, Rome or Madrid do not go unnoticed either.
Every day you can see young people who choose the shirt of their soccer team to have dinner with their girlfriend who, precisely, goes to the appointment with a dress and heels.
It is not a foreign thing to wear gladiator sandals with socks, there are many devotees of this fashion who opt for it to have an aperitif, walk by the sea or go shopping.
“The truth is that there are neither impossible nor tacky garments, what do exist are people and moments to wear a certain type of clothing”, clarifies Román Padín.
The ideal: be yourself with some decorum
“Fashion is no longer what a designer says, but a series of trends that act as concentric circles and that can be followed or not depending on one’s physique, taste or style”, points out this PhD in Contemporary Art from the University of Vigo who specializes in fashion.
“The ideal is to follow trends that allow you to be yourself, but at the same time a certain decorum, in the sense of harmony,” recommends Padín, who believes that among the best options to dress in summer are pure colors, such as white, Veronese green, soft yellow, orange or blue.
To work in flip flops
Padín does not see it as appropriate to walk down the street or go to work wearing flip flops or short pants, because “they offer an image of disheveledness.”
Nor does it recommend t-shirts with children’s illustrations for adults, since “they are presented as incapable of taking on the responsibilities of adult life, as if they had Peter Pan syndrome.”
The ideal is to dress in sets that denote a preparation of what you have worn, “beautiful clothes in which you have reconsidered a little”, proposes the expert, who concludes that animal prints or polka dot motifs are very risky, “not suitable for everyone”.
