In statements to Cope, Feijóo has lamented the “traces” of the Prime Minister and PSOE candidate against him because “he knows perfectly well that he has never, ever, had anything to do” with the activity of the drug trafficker with whom he was photographed on one occasion.
He has thus responded to the statements by Sánchez, who in the final stretch of the electoral campaign, asked him to clarify his connections with Marcial Dorado, accusations that, he has insisted, go back 30 years and for which he has given explanations on several occasions, also in an appearance in the Galician Parliament.
Feijóo recalled that it was in 2009 when he ran for the Presidency of the Xunta for the first time when, going to a rally, his party warned him that the PSOE was asking him to “lower his tone” because “they were going to take some photos of him with a drug trafficker”.
“At that time I was a smuggler. I mean when I met him. He had been a smuggler, never a drug trafficker ”, Feijóo added, emphasizing that his response was “let them take what they want!
Feijóo has commented that although it is an argument that has been used in all the regional campaigns, he did not expect that “this garbage would be used in a general election to try to discredit the adversary”.
After claiming that he met “that person when he had nothing to do with this matter”, the popular leader has said that he preferred not to talk about photos because “he would fall into the same trap” as his political opponents.
“If I take the Sánchez newspaper library and the photos of Yolanda Díaz, well, they are there with dictators, with people accused of drug trafficking; people who could not enter the EU because they were prohibited from entering Schengen territory…”, alluding to the Venezuelan Vice President Delsy Rodríguez.
He added that “after 30 years in politics, the Galicians who know him very well know the difference between knowing a person and having a commercial or complicit relationship” and that, for this reason, they have judged him “quite clearly” giving him four absolute majorities.
Feijóo has said that these “those hoaxes” are part of the attitude of the candidate for the Presidency of the Government who “knows perfectly” that he has never had “nothing to do with the final activity of this man.”
