Evolution of the fire
At night, 131 ground troops have continued working on extinction work. At dawn, the aerial means have found, as in the past days, poor visibility due to the presence of low clouds.
Early this afternoon, official information will be provided on the evolution of the fire on its fifth day of activity.
The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands recommends to the population of the municipalities of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane, Tijarafe, Puntagorda and Tazacorte that they avoid prolonged stays outdoors and the use of masks outdoors due to the worsening of air quality due to suspended particles derived from the fire.
The Cabildo de La Palma has reported that in the absence of a full assessment of the registered damage, the fire has affected 25 properties in Puntagorda and 35 in Tijarafe, of which nine are homes.
When did the fire start?
The fire originated at dawn on Saturday and advanced throughout the day in urban and forest transition zones, forcing the evacuation of more than 4,000 residents, according to the census, the vast majority of whom have already been able to return to their houses.
There are no people staying in the shelters that were set up to house the evacuees.
The estimated area affected is about 3,500 hectares and although the fire has not yet been considered controlled, in the last meeting of the extinction operation on Tuesday night, the prospects for this Wednesday were optimistic.
At night, the Forest Fire Brigade (Brif) of the Ministry of Ecological Transition based in Puntagorda withdrew at 11:05 p.m. due to the improvement of the fire conditions in the National Park.
For this morning, the reincorporation of the Puntagorda Brif and the eighteen reinforcement troops of the Brif that has been transferred from Tineo (Asturias) to the extinction work in the Caldera de Taburiente is scheduled.
The northern sector has already been stabilized and the evolution was positive in the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, where the latest estimates placed the affected hectares at 200.
For this Wednesday, the operation has ten aerial means and almost 300 troops, of which 255 correspond to the fight against the fire and 40 security and support agents.
Weather forecasts indicate that the maximum temperatures will be 23 degrees in the area, the wind speed tends to decrease and the humidity will be around 70 percent.
Access to the LP-1 highway has been left open without restrictions and only the LP-214 is closed up to the Los Brecitos viewpoint.
