Brussels, (EFE) Sebastián on the occasion of the general elections on July 23.
Sánchez, as rotating president of the Council of the EU, was scheduled to appear at the press conference that he was going to offer at the end of that summit together with other European and Celac leaders.
Specifically, it was expected that he would be present together with the president of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen; the President of the Council, Charles Michel; the president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández; and the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and rotating president of Celac, Ralph Gonsalves.
In fact, in the press room of the Council building, the five lecterns on which each of them were to be placed had already been installed.
The summit lasted longer than expected due to negotiations between the leaders of both regions over the reference in the final declaration of the summit to the war in Ukraine.
Due to this delay, Sánchez finally decided not to participate in the press appearance and go to the airport to travel to San Sebastián and participate in the event organized by the PSOE.
The PP dismisses Sánchez as irresponsible
For its part, the PP has today reproached the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, for his “irresponsibility” for canceling his appearance at the press conference at the end of the EU-Celac summit, which is being held in Brussels, to attend a rally in San Sebastián and has reproached him for “compromising the role and the Spanish image”.
PP sources have considered that “the interests of Spain cannot be in the hands of a president who puts his electoral urgency before his obligations” and have reminded Sánchez that “he is the current president of the European Union.
The popular make Sánchez’s absence ugly for not being present at the press conference that he was going to offer at the end of that summit together with other European and Celac leaders, adding that he announced his absence “at the last moment” and indicating that on Monday “he also did not chair, as planned, the gala dinner” of the summit.
