Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The Senegalese center Khalifa Diop, who has signed for Baskonia, highlighted this Tuesday that “he has learned a lot on and off the field” during his time in Gran Canaria and that “he has achieved more of what he has dreamed”.
“It’s going to be good to come back here and play against Granca, the team that has given me everything”, considers the player this Tuesday in an interview that CB Gran Canaria has done for him on the occasion of his farewell and about which he reports.
Diop hopes that the time will come to face the yellow team and “to be able to enjoy it and have a good time”.
The African interior confesses that “he has achieved more than he dreamed of” and that he is leaving the island “very happy for having managed to win a title with ‘Granca'”, in reference to the Eurocup title that the team won this season.
In the interview, Diop reviews his first memories in the yellow team, especially the day he was assigned the number 18, with which he has played since then and takes “anywhere”. He will wear the same number in his new stage at Baskonia.
“I have improved a lot. When I got here I barely knew how to dribble the ball. There are many incredible people who have been helping me during all these years, doing individual technique, training morning and afternoon. I have changed a lot, all thanks to them”, explains the player.
In addition, he celebrates that “he has learned a lot on and off the pitch” and that, thanks to what he has learned, he considers that “he is a better person than before”.
Diop also refers to the years he shared with Olek Balcerowski and assures that “he is sorry” to part with him because “it is seven years”. “Every preseason I am with him and throughout the season; in fact, he is my roommate on all trips. With Olek I have played Junior, EBA, LEB Silver… ”, he explains.
“I’m sorry but I have to keep fighting for my dreams and try to go as far as possible,” adds the player who has already been officially presented as part of the Alava team.
The Senegalese center thanks the team for their “help during all these years” and the “incredible” fans who have accompanied him during his time on the island. EFE
