Huelva, (EFE).- The province of Huelva, the main producer of red berries in Spain and Europe, has exported strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries in the month of May -the last peak month of the campaign- worth more than 1,026 millions of euros.
The largest volume is monopolized by strawberries. A fruit that, although production has been reduced this year by 10%, standing at 243,000 tons, has stabilized the appreciation of exports. Freshuelva has reported in a statement.
In this way, up to the month of May, an increase of 0.22% was registered with respect to the same period of the previous year. With exports valued at almost 571 million euros.
Germany and the United Kingdom, main destinations
In the case of blueberries, the increase in the value of exports rose to 1.27%. With exports valued at almost 219 million euros of this type of red fruit from Huelva.
The greatest increase was experienced by blackberries, with exports valued at 14.3 million euros and an increase of 61.2%.
On the other hand, raspberry exports up to the month of May had a value of 222.5 million euros. This represents a decrease of 3.65% compared to the previous campaign.
Germany and the United Kingdom continue to be the main destination countries for Huelva red berries, while despite Brexit, British imports have surpassed French imports, which are in third place. The Netherlands, in the case of raspberries and blueberries, are the third destination for Huelva berry sales. EFE
