Madrid (EFE).- Correos opens all the offices in the city of Madrid and Barcelona as well as those in the most touristic destinations to facilitate the delivery of vote-by-mail documentation and its issuance, the deadline for which is July 20.
In a statement, the Post Office indicates that 106 offices in Madrid and Barcelona opened this Saturday from nine in the morning to nine at night and on Sunday, from nine to two in the afternoon. These extraordinary openings will be joined by offices throughout Spain, particularly in coastal tourist areas where a greater influx is expected.
Specifically, 1,966 branches across the country opened on Saturday and 276 on Sunday, located in provincial capitals of tourist areas of Andalusia, the Valencian Community, Murcia or the Balearic Islands.
In addition, in the towns that celebrate local holidays until July 20, the offices will remain open at their usual hours, to expedite the management of voting by mail, whose deadline to request it ends this Thursday.
All offices that usually close after 8:00 p.m. will remain open until 10:00 p.m.
On the other hand, the entity has reiterated that there will be extraordinary deliveries over the weekend and that this Saturday around 5,700 postmen from the Post Office have worked delivering electoral documentation.
On Sunday, another extraordinary distribution will be carried out in 165 distribution units in the areas where the greatest number of electoral mailings are being received, in which nearly 900 Postal professionals will participate.
Reinforcement of the distribution network in Correos
Correos also recalls that the distribution network has been reinforced with 315 additional delivery points to be able to collect the documentation that will be sent until July 16.
Similarly, the service will be reinforced in all logistics centers, including the one located at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport, for the management of international shipments.
After the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has maintained that “here nobody talks about pucherazo” in the vote by mail, but he has warned, based on the complaints of the unions, of the “jam” that is producing in the distribution of the ballots, which some voters are still waiting for, Correos has once again insisted that the entity is adopting, since the Elections were called, all the necessary organizational measures to guarantee compliance with its obligations.
He recalled that the postal entity has formalized 20,240 reinforcement contracts since May 30 and is putting all its technological, logistical and human resources at the service of the process.
In another statement, the UGT Public Services union has regretted Feijóo’s statements “sowing suspicions about the capacity and neutrality of postmen and intermediate managers of the Post Office” and has stated that “they do not deserve the unusual, unfortunate and equivocal” statements.
