Ibiza, Jul 16 (EFE).- The group of activists against the climate crisis Futuro Vegetal has continued this Sunday with its actions against luxury goods in Ibiza, this time spraying paint on the Kaos megayacht, owned by Nancy Walton Laurie, the billionaire heir to the Walmart company.
At 9:00 a.m., two activists from the group used fire extinguishers to spray paint on the boat docked in the port of Ibiza, an action that, as reported by Futuro Vegetal in a note, puts an end to the campaign “Jets and Yachts, the party is over”, convened by Extinction Rebellion Ibiza, which calls for a ban on private jets and an end to luxury broadcasts.
From the collective they detail that the yacht was built in 2017 and its price amounts to 300 million euros. Its annual maintenance cost ranges between 20 and 30 million dollars, indicates the activists’ note, which cites this information from the superyachtfan.com website.
The owner, Nancy Walton, is one of the Walmart heiresses and, according to Forbes, “her current fortune is $8.7 billion,” they add.
The group denounces that the only reason for maintaining the current economic system that leads to eco-social collapse “is to sustain the privileges of this small privileged class.”
Futuro Vegetal began its actions in Ibiza last Monday staining the cherries of the Pacha nightclub with black paint, to continue on Tuesday breaking into the luxury Blue Marlin beach club in Cala Jondal with banners of ‘Your luxury our climate crisis’ (your luxury , our climate crisis) in order to denounce the “incompatibility” of sustaining the lifestyle of the megarich with the climate crisis.
On Friday it was the turn of a private jet at Ibiza airport and on Saturday the actions continued with the spraying of paint on a Lamborghini model luxury vehicle.
