A Coruña (EFE).- The singer Joaquín Sabina broke his Coruña curse tonight among “friends” and overwhelmed by the heat of the public, which left him speechless for several minutes with an intense ovation, in a concert expected by “500 nights” .
The Coliseum of A Coruña brought together 7,000 people, packed, in the first of the only two concerts by the artist from Úbeda (Jaén) in Galicia, since he will only perform again on Sunday on the same stage.
It is the last performance before September, when it will continue in Seville before its tour of Mexico in October.
The tour, ‘Against all odds’, was going to arrive in A Coruña at the beginning of June, but it had to postpone the concerts, as it had also postponed the performances in the city in 2018, in both cases due to illness, in a curious Coruña curse .
“First of all I wanted to tell you how grateful I am to see you there. The only place we stopped doing because of a damn laryngitis was Coruña and we want to tell you that we are very grateful that you have waited”, Sabina emphasized at 74 years of age.
Well, despite the postponement and the fact that money was offered to those who had sold out the tickets for the June dates, the artist added a full house tonight and will add another on Sunday.
He did it at a concert that began with the heat of a dedicated audience, while the singer took off his hat and greeted “friends he hadn’t seen for a long time.”
And he sang like that, among “friends” in a mixture of his classics with his most current songs, which began with a memory of ‘When I was younger’, before ‘Sentiendo lo mucho’ and ‘I deny everything’, which raised the public and marked the beginning of an unforgettable night.
“When one reaches an advanced age, they leave, friends and very dear teachers from the last years leave them.
Luis Eduardo Aute left us, shortly after Pablo Milanés also left, then my cousin Serrat withdrew, no one knows why, and I mean the song that I will sing now, it is written in honor of a woman whom I was lucky to be able to sing it looking into her eyes, not to mourn her death but to celebrate her life”, she confessed before singing ‘Por el boulevard de los sueños rotos’, dedicated to Chavela Vargas.
Sabina, in her facet as a creator and poet, recognized that sometimes she poses songs that are “too complicated or too pretentious”, so she gave Mara Barros the stage to sing ‘I want to be an Almodóvar girl’.
Then he did the same with Antonio García de Diego, his eternal companion, who began ‘The most beautiful song in the world’ to end it with Sabina himself in chorus.
And the high point of the night came with ‘So young and so old’, a song that ended with emotion, moist eyes and a several-minute ovation to the cry of “Oé, oé, oé”, which silenced the maestro.
With the audience delivered, she continued an unforgettable performance after waiting for more than “19 days” and with the desire to vibrate for “500 nights” before they hit “12, 1, 2 and 3” with an eternal Sabina that never ceases to make Galicia fall in love.
