Environment Newsroom, Jul 14 (EFE).- Three Futuro Vegetal activists have been arrested by the Civil Guard after having sprayed a private jet with paint at the Ibiza airport to protest against the inaction of the institutions in the face of the climate crisis and to demand changes in the agrifood system.
The action was carried out around 6:00 in the morning without incident in the operations of the Ibizan airport, where all scheduled flights have taken off and landed normally, sources from the airport manager AENA have informed EFE.
The objective of Futuro Vegetal was to demand that the Government divert the subsidies currently allocated to livestock to the promotion of socially and ecologically responsible alternatives based on vegetables, the environmental organization reported in a statement.
The protest is part of the “Jets and yachts, the party’s over” campaign, convened by the Eivissa Es Rebel·la platform, made up of local climate organizations to demand the ban on private jets and the elimination of “luxury emissions”. .
These organizations defend the need to adapt the agri-food system to a context of climate chaos and consider that the institutions should be acting as if the global warming limit set in the Paris Agreement had already been exceeded, “since everything indicates that it will be exceeded.” this decade.”
“No political party has a package of forceful measures to alleviate the climate crisis nor does it seem to be capable of implementing the changes we need. The science is clear, we need a change in the production model and we cannot wait for the institutions to act”, they have assured from Futuro Vegetal.
