Seville, (EFE).- María and Manuel have been the most chosen names for Andalusian babies born in 2022, a duo that is repeated for the seventh consecutive year, according to the Newborn Names Statistics prepared by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia.
This statistic, which has been compiled since 1996, reveals that María, with 921 girls, representing 3.0% of the total, repeats the first position she has held since 2009, and Manuel, with 1,117 boys (3.5%), leads the children list.
Among the names of newborn girls, the four most common were María, Lucía, Lola and Carmen, which accounted for a total of 9.7%.
Jaén, where more names are repeated
Regarding the names of boys, the first four were Manuel, Hugo, Alejandro and Martín, with a total of 10.5%.
The name of the parents continues to condition the choice of the name of the newborn, being more prominent in the case of boys.
5.1% of girls received their mother’s name while in boys the percentage is 14.0%.
Jaén is the province where the repetition of names with that of their parents occurs most frequently, with 12.6% of the total number of births, and in Malaga the lowest level is found, with 7.2%.
María was the most frequent girl’s name among all the Andalusian provinces, except Jaén, while Manuel was the most frequent, except in Almería and Granada. EFE
