San Salvador (EFE) with 15.16 meters (m).
Rojas was the center of all attention at the Jorge ‘Mágico’ González Stadium in the Salvadoran capital since he began his warm-up and made the fans rise from their seats when he surpassed, without much effort, the Central Caribbean record set by the Colombian Caterine Ibargüen in Barranquilla 2018.
Rojas’ first jump was enough to qualify the champion of the last three world championships in the category to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where the South American will be able to defend her Tokyo 2020 title.
The silver medalist, the Cuban Leyanis Pérez, was also able to beat the Central Caribbean mark of the Colombian Ibargüen with 14.98 m, but she was far from the new record set by the Venezuelan.
The bronze in the women’s triple jump went to the also Cuban Liadagmis Povea, who achieved a maximum length of 14.85 meters in her third attempt, out of a total of six.
Also competing in the event was Thea Ladond, from Dominica; Tamara Myers, from the Bahamas; Thelma Fuentes from Guatemala; Natrena Hooper, from Guyana and Rebeca Barrientos, from El Salvador.
