Moscow (EFE).- The Belarusian president, Alexandr Lukashenko, affirmed this Thursday that the head of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgueni Prigozhin, is currently in Russia and not in Belarus, where he had to go into exile after the failed mutiny against the Russian military leadership .
“As for Prigozhin, he is in Píter (St. Petersburg). It is not in Belarusian territory,” Lukashenko said in a meeting with foreign and Belarusian media.
Lukashenko says that he is not worried about the arrival of the Wagners, whom he will use for the defense of the country
Lukashenko also assured that he is not concerned about the arrival of the Wagner Group mercenaries, by virtue of an agreement with the Kremlin and the leader of that formation, Yevgueni Prigozhin, since they can be used for the defense of the country.
“I am not at all concerned that we have to host a certain number of those fighters. Also, they will be deployed under certain conditions and the main one is that if we need to use that unit for the defense of the state, we will do it right away,” Lukashenko said in a meeting with foreign and Belarusian journalists.
He added, quoted by his press service, that the experience of the Russian military “is in demand” in Belarus.
“The experience that the Wagners and their commanders have will gladly pass it on to our armed forces. I mean the military experience they have gained, ”he stressed.
Regarding the date of the arrival of the mercenaries, Lukashenko assured that everything depends on the Russian side.
“It is a Russian company, so that question should not be asked of me,” he said, adding that, according to his information, the militia fighters are still at their bases in Russia.
