Kiev (EFE).- The authorities imposed by Russia in the province of Kherson, in southern Ukraine, have begun to secretly vaccinate against cholera due to the increase in infections, reported the Ukrainian General Staff.
“An increase in the number of cases of acute intestinal infections has been detected in the temporarily occupied Skadovsk and Genichesk, in occupied Kherson,” says the military report of the Ukrainian General Staff issued on Wednesday.
The symptoms of the infections are typical of cholera, according to the source.
Kherson, split in two by the Dnieper River
“The so-called occupying power does not recognize the increase in the number of cases, tries to hide the deterioration of the sanitary-epidemiological situation in the region and has started a covert vaccination campaign against cholera,” explains the Ukrainian military report.
The Jershon region is bisected by the Dnieper River. Russia occupies the eastern bank and the Government of Kiev controls the western bank.
Part of Jerson province suffered severe flooding last month as a consequence of the destruction of the New Kajovka dam and the hydroelectric power plant of which the infrastructure forms part, which was located in Russian-occupied territory.
The destruction of the hydroelectric power station and the dam on the Dnieper River caused a humanitarian and ecological catastrophe in the area. kyiv accuses Russia of premeditatedly blowing up the infrastructure to cause the flooding and hinder a possible Ukrainian advance.
