Caracas (EFE).- The Venezuelan opposition member María Corina Machado assured this Tuesday that her political disqualification, which prevents her from holding public office in popular elections for 15 years, will turn against the government of the Chavista Nicolás Maduro, since – she foresees – it will have an effect “boomerang”.
“Much more than useless, this supposed political disqualification is a big mistake (…) This will become a real boomerang for the regime,” said the anti-Chavista leader at a press conference, four days after the Comptroller General announced the administrative measure against him.
Last Friday, through the opposition dissident deputy José Brito, the Comptroller General announced the disqualification of Machado, already sanctioned in 2015, when the institution applied the measure for one year, arguing that the opposition did not include “concepts” of a labor nature in your affidavit of assets.
Machado assured that, with his disqualification, the Executive achieved that “the primaries are not just a contest between Venezuelan candidates or parties with different visions (…) With this they have managed to make the primaries the first stage of the contest and the defeat of Maduro”.
Machado calls for union to defeat the Maduro government
In his opinion, this decision gives a “component of challenge” to the internal electoral process of the opposition scheduled for next October 22, in which a contender who will face Chavismo in the presidential elections of 2024.
In this sense, he asked Venezuelans to focus on actions to defeat the Maduro government, to whom he sent a message.
“Nicolás Maduro, you are not the one who is going to choose the candidate who is going to face you and defeat you in the 2024 presidential elections, that candidate will be chosen by the people of Venezuela on October 22 in the primary elections,” he asserted.
Likewise, he asked the international community to prepare for “the defeat of Nicolás Maduro and the beginning of a democratic transition in the country”, for which he assured that his team and followers are ready.
