Logroño, (EFE).- The first and second floors, currently under renovation, of the San Blas Market in Logroño will be operational within a year or a year and a half, “at most”, after their current works are completed within the next November and December, after which there will be more adaptation actions.
This was stated this Monday by the Councilor for City Promotion, Miguel Sainz, in an informative meeting during his visit to the works of this market, in which the Councilor for Architecture and Heritage, Íñigo López-Araquistain, also participated.
Sainz explained that, although these works started with a budget of about 3.1 million euros, the current municipal government had to approve an added investment of almost 900,000 euros to “solve technical issues that have arisen when dismantling a large part of the infrastructures”.
He has indicated that, when these works are completed at the end of this year, the first and second floors will remain as “renovated and open spaces with great capacity, which will allow us to choose a wide range of activities to bring here.”
However, it has continued, “no use or activity will be allowed that competes directly or indirectly with the current or future stalls of the San Blás Market, nor with (the shops in) the area” in which it is located. situates this building, since “this is a space called to complete, not to compete”.
To do this, it has announced “deeper contact with the market traders, with the Traders Association of the area and with the hoteliers to convey to them the predisposition and plans of the local government team.”
In addition, there will be meetings with the municipal units “to see under what modalities they can be placed here and we do not rule out, even, specialized technical assistance in the revitalization of grocery stores like this one.”
He has highlighted that “the main use that is to be given to this will never be commercial, that it will be a secondary use and it is probable that others will prevail, such as uses for family stays, cultural uses and linked to the world of gastronomy and He came looking for that synergy with the CCR”.
For his part, López-Araquistain has assured that “many setbacks have arisen in the works, there were leak problems in the basement and, among the things that are being carried out, is the replacement of all the facilities”, especially plumbing, which will mean “significant water savings”.
