Madrid (EFE) Council of the EU.
The meeting is held in the Royal Collections Gallery, at whose doors, on the esplanade of the Plaza de la Armería, Sánchez received Von der Leyen.
Both have greeted each other with a kiss and have gone to the place where the members of the Government and the commissioners participating in the meeting were already.
After also greeting all of them one by one, there was a family photo before entering the interior of the building.
The visit of the College of Commissioners, name of the members of the Commission, has been called for the third day of the Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU and is the third act that Sánchez has led since Spain assumed that presidency on Saturday.
The first of these was the trip he made to Kiev on Saturday to symbolize that the EU will continue to support Ukraine until the end of the Russian invasion, and the second was the meeting he held on Sunday at the Moncloa Palace with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
Analysis of the expectations of the Spanish presidency
During today’s session, Sánchez, his ministers and the members of the European Commission led by Von der Leyen will analyze the expectations of the Spanish presidency.
Four will be the axes of this presidency for the Government: the reindustrialization of the EU and guaranteeing its open strategic autonomy, advancing in the ecological transition and environmental adaptation, promoting greater social and economic justice and reinforcing European unity.
Among the issues in which it is expected that progress can be made over the next six months is the Pact on Migration and Asylum, the modification of fiscal rules, the reform of the electricity market or the revision of the community budget to allocate more aid to Ukraine .
The trip of the members of the College of Commissioners (not all of them have traveled to Madrid for scheduling reasons) was initially scheduled for July 6 and 7, but Sánchez and Von der Leyen agreed to bring it forward a few days so that it would not take place in the middle of the campaign electoral for the general elections of July 23.
Some elections that the Government affirms will not have an impact on the objectives of the presidency of the Council of the EU and on the development of the planned agenda.
After the meeting, Sánchez and Von der Leyen will appear at a press conference, and then the members of the College of Commissioners will go to the nearby Royal Palace, where they will be received by Felipe VI.
