Valladolid (EFE).- Castilla y León was the second rural tourism destination in Spain in May with 121,907 overnight stays, surpassed by the Balearic Islands, with 171,992 and an 11.2% increase, according to data published this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Castilla y León, however, remained the preferred destination for Spanish tourists in May, with 20.2 percent of overnight stays, followed by Catalonia with 12.5 percent.
In May, Castilla y León registered 107,152 overnight stays of residents in their rural accommodation, 10.17 percent less than in the same month of 2022; while those of foreigners increased by 15.9 percent to 14,755.
Overnight stays in rural accommodation in Castilla y León in May were 40.7 percent lower than in the previous month, when the Community recorded 205,487, boosted by Easter.
In the national group, overnight stays in rural tourism accommodation presented an annual increase of 3.5% in May; those of residents decreased by 5.7%, while that of non-residents grew by 21.6%.
The average stay in rural tourism establishments was 1.95 days in Castilla y León in May, compared to the 2.4 national average.
The degree of occupancy by places at the weekend reached 26.19 percent in Castilla y León, also below the national 30.23.
In May the Community offered 32,586 places in 3,518 accommodations, with 4,964 jobs.
By provinces, León was the fifth national in overnight stays in May, with 19,857, in a classification led by Málaga with 58,638; while Burgos and Ávila were in sixth and seventh place with 19,218 and 18,944 overnight stays, respectively.
Segovia was placed in tenth place with 18,108, according to the same sources.EFE
