Valladolid (EFE).- Agents of the Burgos National Police have arrested a 42-year-old man, a Spanish national, as the alleged perpetrator of the death of his partner, a 20-year-old Romanian woman.
The events occurred on the afternoon of this Saturday at the home they shared on Avenida del Cid in the capital of Burgos, as reported by the National Police this Saturday in a statement.
According to the police report, the woman called 112 around half past three in the afternoon to report that she was having problems with her partner and, later, it was the detainee himself who called the emergency telephone number to request the police presence claiming that the woman was very nervous and had locked herself in a room with a knife.
Once the agents arrived at the scene, the woman was already dead and her partner claimed that she had hanged herself and that he had taken the body down.
After taking the first testimonies from the neighbors and based on the evidence collected, the Police arrested this man as the alleged perpetrator of the death.
With a history of sexist violence against another partner
As reported by the Police, the now detainee had a history of gender violence against his former partner. And the deceased, according to police notes, had been the victim of previous couples, but there was no complaint against the alleged perpetrator of her death.
The man is in custody awaiting trial.
If confirmed, this would be the third fatality due to gender violence in Castilla y León so far this year and the 62nd since there are records, in 2003. In Burgos, 12 women have died killed by their partners or ex-partners since 2003. This would be the first of 2023.
At the national level, if confirmed, it would be the 25th victim this 2023 and the 1,209 since the data began to be collected.
