Sports writing (EFE).- The Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), outstanding leader of the championship, won this Saturday the sprint test of the Austrian Grand Prix, the ninth Formula One World Cup, which was held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg (Styria); where his partner, the Mexican Sergio Pérez, finished second; and the Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), third.
The other Spaniard, the Asturian double world champion Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), finished fifth in the reduced test -to 24 laps, to complete a 103.6-kilometre route, just over a third of the race this Sunday- just behind his teammate, the Canadian Lance Stroll, who crossed the finish line in fourth position.
German Nico Hülkenberg (Haas) finished sixth, one place ahead of Frenchman Esteban Ocon (Alpine).
The Englishman George Russell (Mercedes), who started fifteenth, led the comeback of the sprint: he finished eighth and was the last of those who scored; in a short race that awarded eight points to the winner, seven to second, six to third; and so on until the occupant of the eighth place, who added one to his box in the general of the contest.
