Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The Minister of Tourism, Héctor Gómez, has highlighted the good forecasts for the tourism sector in the coming months, in which the pre-pandemic indicators will be exceeded.
“Record figures are being broken, pre-pandemic indicators have been exceeded, with a 20 percent growth in tourist spending”, for example, the minister assured during a visit to Las Canteras beach in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
“We are in data that exceeds that of 2019” and all markets are growing, “the indicators are very good”, with very positive prospects for employment in the tourism sector.
This has been possible “thanks to good management and the strength of the productive fabric,” according to Gómez.
The minister has highlighted “the extraordinary work done by the Government of the Canary Islands, until now led by Ángel Víctor Torres”, and has wished the new Executive “to do the best possible job based on institutional loyalty and commitment to the canaries”.
Likewise, the President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has highlighted that the good tourist data for the summer confirm that “2023 is a very important year for economic recovery.”
This is especially relevant in a context in which “we are still under the consequences of the invasion of Ukraine and also of other aspects that affect the economy.”
Torres has expressed his confidence that the new Government of the Canary Islands “continues to bet, as we have done in these years, for the comeback of the recovery”, as well as for employment and foreign investment.
The mayoress of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carolina Darias, has assured that “the city is consolidating itself as one of the great urban tourist destination cities nationwide.”
“The data we have is very good,” as they have increased by 12 percent from January to May compared to last year, he said.
Darias has expressed his intention to “continue walking firmly towards urban tourism that grows sustainably and responsibly, to reference Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as one of the best urban tourist destinations”. EFE
