Once the City Council has started up a new water treatment plant with the collaboration of the Zamora Provincial Council, new analytical controls have been carried out on the water with parameters that indicate that it is suitable for consumption by residents.
The mayor of Toro has expressed his satisfaction because the 9,000 residents of the municipality will be able to have drinking water in their taps. “Toro will be able to drink drinking water. After six months, we are going to open the tap and be able to drink water ”, he stated, assuring that it was one of the priorities that he had as mayor.
However, he has assured that we must go “further” and seek a definitive solution to this problem, since the treatment plant is a provisional measure.

The delegate of the Board recalled that the regional Administration has the powers in terms of sanitary monitoring of household water and that the arsenic component in Toro’s water has been monitored, which has shown high levels in recent months, mainly at the end of 2022 and early 2023.
“At the beginning of the year, constant samples were taken and they gave high levels of arsenic that made it necessary to declare Toro’s water unfit for consumption,” he explained.
The immediate measures that were adopted were the installation by the Zamora Provincial Council of portable water treatment plants in the municipality and the distribution of bottled water for people with mobility difficulties.
It is expected that this afternoon the new water treatment station will be put into service with the assistance of the president of the Diputación de Zamora, Javier Faúndez. EFE
