The 69th edition of Merida International Classical Theater Festival will start this weekend with two shows, the concert “Iannis Xenakis, Oresteïa”, by the Zaragoza Chamber Orchestra (Enigma Group) and the comedy of Plautus’The Twins‘, which returns to the Romano tables ten years after its premiere.
Musical proposal for Saturday, July 1
“La Orestíada”, which will be represented on Saturday, July 1, by a cast of close to a hundred, including actors, actresses and musicians, is an “interesting” contemporary music proposal that is “risky”, as its narrator has highlighted, Simon Ferrerothis Tuesday at the presentation of the show in Mérida.
This montage, in his opinion, “not so conventional” recounts the events that occurred at the end of the Trojan War and the fatalities suffered by King Agamemnon when he returned to his own palace through a dialogue with “tradition”, before the that Ferrero has invited the public to let themselves be “contaminated and seduced”.
Justice and human passions taken to the limit are some of the themes addressed in this work described as “heartbreaking” by Ferrero, who has been “very grateful” to be able to “transport, illustrate and accompany” the piece by the Greek composer.
The presentation ceremony was also attended by the director of the festival, Jesus Cimarro, and the director of Performing Arts and Music of Extremadura (CEMART), Antonia Álvarez, who has valued the “Orestíada” as a work that “connects us with our collective values” and that allegorically shows the beginnings of “democracy ” and “justice” emeritenses.
For its part, the comedy will arrive at the Roman Theater on Sunday, July 2, with ‘The Twins’which return to the festival with a special performance for the tenth anniversary of its premiere with practically the same cast to “live a night out”, has declared the producer of the work, Fernando Ramos.
Plauto’s comedy that stars two twins with a similar name has a cast made up of a “marvelous and solidified” group of people who “always” have a “much better” time than the spectators, highlighted Ramos, who also plays to one of the twins.
In this sense, the director of the play, Paco Carrillo, has valued the set of actors from Extremadura, their “psychic” complicity and the “fun” creative process, as well as the “spell” to keep this story current.
With this single function, the co-production of the festival itself and Verbo Producciones celebrates its tenth anniversary after years of success and more than a hundred performances behind it, although with “somewhat different” protagonists, Cimarro joked, alluding to the passing of time. .
This is how a new edition of this festival will be inaugurated that “summer after summer the town enjoys as 2,000 years ago on the same stage”, an appointment that recalls the capacity of theater to make people feel “free and out of reality”, Álvarez has reflected
